There are many of such modernistic architectural buildings in Budapest. Most of these land marks of buildings give you a feel of the city and make you feel the history and culture of Budapest. You can visit any of all these sites through a walking tour and experience that in the building. These buildings should certainly be visited when in Budapest.
Hungarian Parliament Building
The Parliament building was built in 17 years, and finished in 1902. This neo-gothic building drew its inspiration from the Palace of Westminster in the UK. I have to say, for historic buildings, this would be at the top of my list. From Kossuth Lajos Square (directly in front of the building), river or opposite the Buda banks are the best views of the parliament.
St. Stephen’s Basilica
The church was finished after 50 years and was once the biggest church in Budapest when it opened in 1906. As an entrance, it’s free, but to climb to the observation deck around the dome which stands 96 feet high costs 500 forint (about $2.30).
Szechenyi chain bridge Budapest
Szechenyi Chain Bridge
It is a city of bridges, but this bridge, in fact, beats all the others hands down. In 1849 it was constructed as the first permanent bridge linking Buda with Pest. The English man designed this 375 meter long suspension bridge. But the bridge was blown up during World War II and a replacement was required. It was open for traffic in 1947. At night, it is well illuminated and you’d come to find out is the best time to go visiting as it really gives you a truly spectacular view.
Distinct other iconic buildings in Budapest include Fisherman’s Bastion, Dohany Street Synagogue, Museum of Applied Arts, etc. For a person who loves classical architectural buildings, ensure you visit these and others.
