There’s nothing quite like experiencing a new city from above when you’re exploring it. 1. The Reichstag Building
This tour starts at the Reichstag Building, the seat of the German Bundestag. With its distinctive glass dome, this is a 360 degree view of Berlin that’s famous. On the rooftop terrace of the dome, you’ll have a clear view over the city, with such (famous) landmarks as Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden boulevard and Tiergarten park.
Tip:
High demand means visiting the dome of the Reichstag Building requires prior registration. To make sure your spot, make sure you book your free ticket in advance. Don’t forget the ID for security reasons.
2. The TV Tower
From there, we’ll head to the TV Tower, or the Fernsehturm, in Alexanderplatz. Standing at 368 meters tall, this unique landmark with its payload of unparalleled views of the sprawling cityscape of Berlin. The high speed elevator takes you to the observation deck, floor to ceiling windows offer a fantastic vantage point. On a clear day you can see 42km in all directions, suitable to take in the glorious old town, Potsdamer Platz and the River Spree.
Tip:
If you want to avoid long queues, it’s best to buy your tickets in advance online. Make sure to have it checked at the weather forecast beforehand to make sure it’s clear.
3. Klunkerkranich
Klunkerkranich is a hidden gem in the heart of Berlin and it is a rooftop experience. On top of a shopping center in Berlin’s upscale neighbourhood of Neukölln, this rooftop garden is colourful and offers a spectacular birds’ eye view over the city skyline. While you walk around, you’ll be blinded with hip vibe and live music performances. Just a place to take a wonderful drink, soak up some Berlin sun and rest the head. Klunkerkranich is the place.
Tip:
Klunkerkranich has very limited capacity so it’s best to get there early, especially on weekends. Visit their website to learn about new events as well as current hours.
4. Weekend Club
Housed within the former GDR broadcasting centre, the Weekend Club is a nightclub first and foremost, as well as an amazing rooftop view. Its panoramic terrace overlooking the famous Alexanderplatz and Berlin Cathedral gives to this popular club its fame. Under the stars, dance the night away by the awesomely lit city.
Tip:
A bonus to visiting the Weekend Club is during daytime for its more relaxed rooftop bar, and if you aren’t into the club scene at all then now is the time to visit. Do also remember to visit their website to check out event schedules and club night dress codes.
5. Monkey Bar
Our final stage, on this rooftop adventure, is Monkey Bar, on the top floor of the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin. This stylish rooftop bar is located just a few steps from the Berlin Zoo and has a panoramic view of the monkey enclosure, and views of the city. Have a cocktail or other refreshing drink while marvelling at the monkeys playing.
Tip:
Since Monkey Bar is a hit with diners, it can get hot in here, even more so at sunset hours. If you arrive on time, or even earlier, it’s a good idea to make a reservation so you can snatch a prime spot.
