by | Oct 22, 2024 | Walking Tour

Have you been a resident of Berlin in the near future or are you going to be in the near future? While having spectacular monuments like Brandenburg Gate, or Check Point Charlie, there is a lot more to the city that has not been discovered. Welcome to the twentieth century Berlin In this guide, day by day, we will take you exploring the parts of Berlin few tourist know exist. Let’s dive in!

1. The East Side Gallery

Along the Spree River on the east side of the city, is the specific opened-air art exhibit area for murals. One can still see one kilometre three hundred metres of the remaining wall painted in various colours by artists from all corners of the world. Go for a walk and do not skip the murals, which express hope, unity and overcoming of obstacles.

Tip:

The graffiti wall also benefits from having fewer people around during the early morning and you should be able to get a picture of the infrastructure painted with the graffiti during the早Morning mornings.

2. Teufelsberg

If you fancy something really eccentric, visit Teufelsberg – a hill created from the earth from the construction trenches in the Grunewald Forest, Berlin. I’m standing on a former Nazi technical college built into a mountain, with defunct radar domes turned into an art facility. Visit the abandoned radar station with its spooky interiors, view the beautifull graffiti, and get a good look at the wonderful world from above.

Tip:

Bring comfortable shoes as you’ll need to climb through up the hill so as to get to the top. Do not forget your camera to take awesome shots of the city of Berlin from the above viewpoint.

3. Urban Spree

Visit Berlin with its developing street art infrastructure at Urban Spree or a unique creative space serving urban art and music. This art center presents exhibitions, concerts, and festivals aimed to involve local and foreign artists. Visit colorful and tagged walls, look at the original paintings and sculptures, and be inspired.

Tip:

Go to Urban Spree at the weekend when the flea market operates within theVenue; where you can get vintage clothes, records and memorable trinkets.

4. Tempelhof Field

Explore a magical park at Tempelhof Field, the former airport that served as the face of Berlin, Germany earlier on. Currently a popular public park, this huge green area is a lovely place for a picnic, cycling and rollerblading. Cycle in with your own bike or rent one on site to go around the old runways, gardens and picnicking areas where people go out to enjoy the sunshine.

Tip:

Take a tour to the airport’s on-site visitor center and discover the rich history of this special airport and its role in the event of the Berlin Airlift.

5. Mauerpark

Visit Mauerpark where Berlin has most of their live and multicultural attraction centers. Furthermore, it turns into a flea market crowded with stallholders selling used clothes, music LPs, vintage items jewelry, accessories, and other trinkets every Sunday. Capture some food from the vendors, sit on the grass and be entertained by live bands at the spectacular Bearpit Karaoke affair.

Tip:

Planning essential to get a better place to sit and relax because Mauerpark often fills up. The two can’t be missed, where the audiences get a taste of the karaoke and get to cheer on daring performers.

Conclusion

If you try to explore Berlin outside some of the conventional tourist attractions, it is very possible to be richly rewarded. From walking through art installations situated on the streets, alleys, and sidewalks, to visiting repurposed abandoned buildings converted into cultural centers, it’s curious places in the city that give a great understanding of Berlin. Hop on the adventure and explore the pearls that defines this city which is Berlin.
